As soon as Jacki walked in the door, Andrew said, "Let's get the doormen gifts together and then pack!" Completely unaware as to what Andrew was up to, Jacki responded, "Nooooo, not yet. Let's relax a little and watch TV."
Since Andrew had to pretend like everything was normal, he sat on the couch with Jacki as she put on an episode of Homeland. After the episode was done, Andrew tried again. "Okay, now let's take care of the doormen gifts and pack." "One more episode?" Jacki asked.
After the two hours of Homeland were finished, Andrew finally got Jacki to sit down and write out the cards for the doormen. They then delivered all the cards and came back upstairs to pack. As always, Jacki took forever, trying on each outfit while Andrew just had to wait, and wait, and wait.
"All right, now let's light the Hanukkah candles so I can give you your gift," Andrew suggested. And yet again, Jacki unknowingly stalled. Earlier that week she had put on some super tacky houndstooth nail polish stickers and they had started to chip. "I need to put clear nail polish on first to fix my nails. So, let's wait to light the candles since I can't open presents until they're dry," Jacki said, making an anxious Andrew even more anxious.
Finally, around 7 pm, the Hanukkah candles were lit. Andrew had Jacki sit on their Syracuse desk chair while he presented her with a huge, wrapped box. Jacki ripped off the paper, opened the box and saw a Muppet inside. But it wasn't just any Muppet. It was a Muppet made to look just like her, with red glasses, long brown hair, and of course a princess dress and crown. Jacki screamed with excitement and started to play with her Muppet. She may or may not have acted out one of the songs from the new Muppets movie soundtrack.
"Is the other Muppet an Andrew Muppet?" Jacki asked. "It is, it is," Andrew replied. "Sit down to open it."
So Jacki sat back down and Andrew gave her the second box. "Be careful with it," he said as she unwrapped it. Of course, Jacki was anything but careful and was about to pull the Muppet out of the box when Andrew yelled, "Look inside!" Jacki did, and this is what she saw:
Jacki's face turned bright red and she immediately started crying. "Jaclyn Sarah Garfinkel, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" Andrew asked, while down on one knee (at 7:22 pm, in case anyone else was keeping track).
Jacki's response? "No!" (She didn't really mean it! She was just in shock and couldn't believe it was happening.) "What do you mean no? I'm down on my knee!" Andrew laughed. At some point (we think, we hope), Jacki said yes!
And don't worry, before any family or friends were called, Jacki scrubbed off the hideously tacky houndstooth nail polish so she could take this photo:
